10 Good Years

e

On June 2, Tiffini and I reached a major milestone in our marriage: 10 years without ever spending more than one night away from the kids. We decided it was high time that we got away for a while, and given our current law school budget, did the wild and crazy thing by heading up to Park City for *two* nights in a hotel without any children.

While this is no exotic destination, we were able to stay in the same hotel (the Silver King) where we spent our honeymoon, which was a fun trip down memory lane. The room itself came with a fully equipped kitchen, and so just like on our honeymoon we hit the grocery store and bought waaay too much food for ourselves. We did some shopping, caught a movie, did some reading, and generally relaxed, just like 10 years ago. In fact, we even managed to eat at the same little Mexican restaurant we had during our honeymoon.

There were a few changes. This time we thought we would upgrade ourselves by getting a room with a hot tub. While the hot tub was fun, having a hot tub a few steps from your bed had the unanticipated effect of making our room extremely muggy, and we had to run the AC almost nonstop to make the room bearable - especially when the evenings heated up! *winkwink* Each morning we went for a long walk. Walking with my wife most mornings has been one of the highlights of this summer for me, and doing it in this beautiful location was even better. One day we headed down to Main Street and wandered through a few of the shop, including art dealers with many beautiful paintings and sculptures we could not possibly afford.

We also decided to bring marshmellow roasting paraphernalia this time, but that turned out to be ill conceived. First, we couldn't get our fire started. After a lot of matches and finally giving up, I went to get a new self-starting log for the fire. By the time I got back, Tiff had the log started, much to my chagrin. After we had left for home, we realized that we had left our marshmallow roasting stick in the room. Oh well.

Before we left I insisted on taking a few pictures of my beautiful bride, and she in turn took a few of me. I feel lucky to have such a wonderful woman to be my companion in this life, and love every opportunity I have to spend time with her (especially when we don't have to worry about the kids). I have decided that these couple of days are very much a reflection of our relationship - not real flashy, but thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to many more anniversaries to come (some of which will be more exciting, I promise).
