The Name Game

So, we have been trying to narrow down a middle name for this little girl of ours. We like to use family names for the middle name so we have looked at all the girl names on both sides of the family. Our families had no imagination. Just about every other girl was named Mary or Elizabeth. We did find a few names we were OK with and then started crossing them off one by one. We even asked Mallory on several occasions to kick when we said the name she liked most. She couldn't make up her mind. Last week, Tim mentioned that he liked the name Jayne but that it sounded so plain. We have also toyed with my sister's middle name Tiana--except expanding it to Tatiana (in honor of my father's love for Russian names). Well, just for fun I said.. if Jayne is too plain, then what about a hybrid of Shanae and Jayne--Janae. We have been letting that simmer for this past week. Yesterday, Tim looked on this website thinkbabynames.com and found the meaning of Janae. This is what it says:

The girl's name Janae \j(a)-nae\ is pronounced ja-NAY. It is of American origin. A favored contemporary variant of Jan, Jane or Jean. Janai is also a Biblical male name with the meaning "God has answered".

For more information, see also related names Ja- and Shanae.

We threw out the name to the boys this morning in the car (not that their opinions count, it is just fun) and got very happy...we like it...responses from Ethan and Zach. Ethan especially liked the meaning of it "God has answered". At first he said.."it is like God has answered what her name is". I asked him if maybe it could mean that God has answered his request for a baby sister. He really liked that idea. Wyatt, on the other hand was quite angry about it. "Her name is Mallory Mae!!!!" he yelled in a dinosaur growl. We tried to give him different variations and he just said "Mallory Mae! Only Mallory Mae!!". Oh my....what an opinionated little boy!! Well, no decisions have been made officially at this point. We are still trying to decide what name feels right. Eight weeks left to decide!!!

It is always hard to pick two names that sound really good together. I know that 3 yr olds can be really stubborn. Madeleine swears that her name is not Madeleine, but just MADDIE MAE. Oh, well. If you decide on a diffrent name you cantell Wyatt that Mae is his secret special name for her. Good Luck
