We had a big storm come through last night. It wasn't that we had tons of snow fall---ha, ha, only about 6-12in--but the wind was insane. There were cars stranded on the road and almost buried in the snow drifts by morning. There were 60+ kids stuck at one of the local elementary schools overnight--luckily not our school and not our kids! And several multi car pile-ups. Crazy!! We had the power go on and off all evening. It came on just long enough for us to cook dinner, eat and clean up--then it went off again. Since we couldn't play Wii, or watch TV, or anything else that required electricity, the kids decided to get out Hullabaloo. It is a really fun game, and we have the non-DVD version so it runs on batteries. We had candles burning and flashlights lighting up the room so the kids could jump, slide and skip all around the room. They thought it was so fun. After they had there fill of Hullabaloo, we started telling ghost stories. The power came back on in time for us to read scriptures and get ready for bed. (The pictures were taken in the dark--you can kind of see the candles glowing)

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! It'll probably be something fun for your older kids to remember about the time the power went out and they played games in the dark! Hope you all are staying warm!
Looks like a fun family night! We lost the electricity a few months back and we loved it. There is just something about a house with no electrical devices and distractions. Snuggling up by the fire and candlelight creates a cozy environment. Glad you had a good time :)
Oh my goodness, how fun!!! What fun wild weather can be. I know, I'm a little off, I have a sickness for it...
Looks like you're making the best of a not-so-great situation. I remember the hurricane nights as a kid in Florida when the power would go out and we'd hear the wind howling outside. To me, it just meant staying up late, using candles, and playing games with my grandma.
I'm glad we're missing this Utah winter.
That sounds like some genuine family fun. No electricity can be a fun experiment sometimes, huh.
