About the Options

After a phone call from my brother-in-law last night I realized that I never told the end of our story. We have chosen our option and changed our expectations/plans for our summer. I know I mentioned that there was a first choice law firm between the two. Well, that firm couldn't decide between two of the four finalists so instead of offering one full time job they proposed hiring both of their favorites--Tim being one of them:) part time. So, Tim would get 25-30 hours a week instead of 40 (and he could continue working 15 hrs/wk when school started again). Their proposal also included buying all of the study materials for the Patent Bar. Tim would spend the other 10 hours studying with the intent of taking the Patent Bar by the end of the summer. The other law firm would be a full time summer job and part time school year job. He would be writing up different pieces of the patent application and pay would be by the piece. This option was potentially much more lucrative.
They both had their good points and bad but that fact that they were both paid positions was more than we anticipated. We figured the first summer would be spent in unpaid externships and that we would have to make the student loans stretch. In the end we stuck with our first choice. When we decided to go back to school the intent was not to find a super lucrative job. Our intent was to find a job/career that Tim could enjoy. We both knew that the smaller firm was a better fit for Tim. Plus, he would be a member of the Patent Bar before starting his second year of law school. And finally, this job will give us some flexibility so that we can still attend our family reunions and fit in a trip back to see everyone in the Great Northwest!
So, there you have it. We are excited for this opportunity for Tim. It is more than we ever anticipated.

Tomorrow I will try and scan in Zach's amazing General Conference artwork. Good Stuff. For more exciting news check out my sister's blog. We are just giddy about this too!!

I am glad you have a plan, and I am especially glad that visiting the northwest is part of that plan. So exciting for your sister. That is sweet that she can't bring herself to say it. Is her last name Tullis?
