Wyatt:
I was really impressed with how well he did. I wasn't sure how he would feel about an audience but he did great. 
They moved up to the second grade words and he made it through a couple of rounds. Then, all of a sudden five kids went out in one round. Wyatt was one of them with the word 'topical'. They were down to 2 kids and did a spell off with those two kids. Then, they needed an alternate so they brought back the five kids. Wyatt was up again. A couple of rounds went by and it was down to 2 kids. Then, they gave Wyatt the word 'hosta'. He spelled it like pasta with an h. So the other kid was named alternate and Wyatt was out. I really thought that he wouldn't care but when I tried to take his picture at the end I got this: 
He was so disappointed he was almost in tears. Poor thing.Zach:
Zach looked a little bit bored up on stage. There were several kids that I thought would give him a run for his money. My Zach, 'the boy who reads but does not talk' (nickname given to him by his classmate Emily) was amazing. He spoke slowly and deliberately. 
They had four kids left and finally had to move on to the 5th grade spelling words. I took a deep breath because we hadn't even looked at the 5th grade words because I was told by the person in charge that they never go that high at the school level. But one by one it was down to two of them. Ellie missed her word and it was Zach's turn. The word: noticeable. As he was spelling it I was too. N O T I C E and I thought--nope darn it!-and then he continued A B L E. And they said 'that is correct'. Good thing I don't know how to spell. 
He told me afterword that he wasn't nervous but he did keep getting twitchylip when it was time to spell. Now it is time to get ready for the multi-school spelling bee. Between the two spelling bees I thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was really stressful to watch.
