He Won!

Zach's entry for the yearbook cover was chosen! We are so excited for him. I got a phone call in the afternoon inviting us to an assembly the next morning where they would announce the winner. They asked me not to tell Zach so that he would be surprised. It was really hard not to spill the beans but we kept it in. When they announced his name all of the kids around him were patting his back and congratulating him. It was really fun to see. They asked him to stand and he didn't respond at first. Turned out he couldn't hear a thing they were saying over the noise of the audience. He finally stood, looking a little embarrassed by the attention. I stopped by the office to see if there was any chance I could buy an extra copy of the yearbook and was thrilled when they gave me one. The teacher over the yearbook happened to be in the office when I stopped by and she told me that if it were up to her, she would keep Zach's picture as the cover from now on and that the contest would only be for the back cover. She thought it was really well done. I thought that was just about the nicest compliment possible.
Zach did say that he had suspected that he had won. Apparently, they took a group picture of all of the kids with their entries several weeks ago. At that time they also took an individual picture of Zach with his entry. No one else got an individual picture. I think at that point he was pretty sure he had won, although he never said a word about it until after the assembly.
