A Threepeat!

Zach brought home another Spelling Bee trophy tonight! I took him up to check in at 7pm and then we waited. When we got there the 2nd grade was still going strong. I think they had to go up to 5th grade words before they could narrow it down to a winner. When they finally got to the 4th grade spelling bee we texted Tim to bring everyone up. We were lucky enough to have Grandma and Grandpa Cluff here for the weekend so they came too. We watched in awe as these 5th graders battled it out. At one point Zach got the word 'compulsory'. Tim and I both spelled it 'compulsary' in our heads and looked at each other like 'He got it wrong, so sad'. Of course, we were pleasantly surprised when they said he had spelled it correctly and we realized that we were both wrong. They were down to three boys and finally moved up to 8th grade words. Two rounds later it was just Zach. He really amazes me with his ability to break words apart and figure out the correct spelling. He further impressed me when he told me that he had spelled the words in his head that had tripped up the other kids. 'Balalaika' was one of those words. I was relieved when someone else got that word because I was certain that it was the luck of the draw and it would have gotten Zach out if he had received it. When it was over, he explained that he realized it was a Russian word and figured out how it would be spelled. He is an amazing speller!
