Poor Mallory

Ok, I have 10 minutes before the bus gets here but I wanted to blog about my poor Mallory's trauma. About the middle of last week I started noticing some white splotches inside Mallory's mouth. I figured it was lingering spit up and decided to just watch it. Well, suddenly she gets this strange diaper rash too, so I start lathering her in diaper rash cream when I change her diapers. I mentioned it to Tim's mom and she said it sounded like Thrush--an infant yeast infection. It wasn't until Friday that we actually called Tim's sister Lisa (who has had several children get Thrush) to describe the symptoms. Well, it matched up with what she had experienced so Tim and I ran to Walgreen's that night for some medicine. Since it was a weekend and we don't have doctors and stuff here yet...we went with the over the counter remedy--Gentian Violet. Yes, violet...look closely at her little lips...that is not lipstick we have on her. This stuff turned her whole mouth dark purple. (not to mention her fingers, and her onesie, and her burp cloth, and a spot on Tim's white dress shirt) The pharmacist told me to use it on her for five days, so she gets to sport the purple look for a few more days. Poor Baby!!

oh my gosh -- poor girl! I hope it clears up soon. That has got to be the strangest medical remedy I have ever seen!

She is just practicing for her upcoming "make-up" years. It's good to start her early...but I think she would look good in something a little more on the pink side ;) Poor thing...hope she is feeling better soon.

I hear you are coming for a visit soon. We look forward to seeing you.

I can't remember whose baby I saw with that, but it is really weird purple looking stuff. I hope she hasn't been fussy because of it and gets well soon!

Caylin had that at 4 weeks and she passed it on to me - and that was the end of nursing! We didn't have to use the genetian violet though - that would have been interesting.
Mallory is already changing and looking more filled out. See you soon.

Poor baby girl! That stuff looks so messy, too! I hope it clears up soon and that she is feeling better after. I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying your new home:)

I've seen that stuff before with some of my nieces and nephews. Poor little girl, it looks like she's getting ready for Halloween a little early!

My nephew had thrush when he was little tiny and they had used that violet stuff also, only I didn't know it. His was faded, so it was purplish blue and I went to peek at him while he was sleeping and I thought that he had stopped breathing. SHe is pretty though, even with lipstick!
