Our Blessing From Above
Lately I have been telling Tim that our children do not fear us enough. One of our family sayings has been "Listen and Obey the first time"...like Nephi when he was asked to get the brass plates, and many other prophets from the scriptures. Unfortunately, when we ask them to do something, we often must ask several times to get a response. Today I was put in my place as I read the First Presidency Message in the Dec. 2007 Ensign. Pres. Hinckley quoted the following from Brigham Young: "Bring up your children in the love and fear of the Lord, study their dispositions and their temperaments, and deal with them accordingly, never allowing yourself to correct them in the heat of passion; teach them to love you rather than to fear you." I guess wanting them to fear us will not get the desired results in the long run. That fear is usually the result of "correct(ing) them in the heat of passion". I love this quote from Pres. Hinckley in the article "Behold your little ones, and see within them the wonders of God, from whose presence they have recently come." I hope I can keep that perspective on my precious little blessings from above.
