I figured I would do a post dedicated to each of the kids over the next couple of days and share some of their summer fun highlight. So, what is summer fun for Ethan?
Sports--According to Tim, this is the "dead time" for sports. Not the case for Ethan. He devours the sports page every day, memorizing baseball stats and trades etc. He then enjoys relaying all of this exciting information to me, usually trying to quiz me on teams and such. So, if anybody misses a baseball game or just wants to know the latest statistics on the all star home run derby, Ethan is your go-to guy. Now, when he is not reading or telling me about the sports page, he is playing imaginary games of baseball, basketball, soccer or hockey up and down the house. We have a weather station hanging by our thermostat that tells us inside/outside temperatures. This is what he uses as his scoreboard. So, if it gets a little hotter inside or out--one of his teams has scored a point. This is my child who never cared about balls as an infant/toddler!!
Weather--Ethan's next obsession is the weather. Again, the newspaper provides so much information that Ethan memorizes. Then, he is constantly watching the clouds and the temperature. He got a book about severe storms like hurricanes, tsunamis, twisters etc. and at least once a week informs us that there is a funnel cloud forming somewhere in the sky. In keeping with his fascination with statistics, he likes to rank the cities in the US according to temps. (Today he ranked Portland #2 behind El Paso, Texas.)
Swimming--we have been taking advantage of the weather and spending every chance we can down at the wading pool. Ethan would love to be in the deeper pool, but since I can't split myself in two, he has to settle for the wading pool. He has been practicing holding his breath under water and makes me time him (current record--6 sec). He also has been working on his under water torpedo swim...as much as you can in less than 2 feet of water.
That just about wraps up the highlights of Ethan's summer so far. I will move on to Zachary next time I have a few minutes.

Zach swallowed an Advil today. I know it doesn't sound too exciting but we have some pill swallowing-averse children. This is a big day!...

What a fun kid! Did he watch the College World Series? Maybe we will see him on TV in a few years (after a mission, of course)!
I love that he reads the sports page...that so cute!

Weather huh? I think he might be a meteroligist?
Ethan cracks me up. I will forever remember when I subbed for his primary class and he was telling me ALL about the Blazers game he had gone too. He sure loves his sports!
