Button, button, someone take away the buttons!!
When Wyatt was 3 1/2 (right after we moved), he developed this sudden fear of buttons. I am not sure if it was somehow related to the move or some random thing but he hates buttons. I have purged his wardrobe of almost all polo shirts because he has refused to wear them. For a while, he didn't want to go to church because it meant a "button shirt". It took both Tim and I wrestling him to get him dressed for church. Then he would push his chin into his neck to keep the buttons from touching his skin. For a while, we let him wear a tshirt with a sweater over it every other week. Last time my mom was here she wore a shirt with buttons on it and he wouldn't hug her when she had on the "button shirt". It has been extremely humorous and frustrating. But, I think we jumped some magical hurdle with him on Sunday. After church he wanted me to unbutton his shirt and I told him that a 4 1/2 year old should be able to unbutton a shirt. He started saying 'no, no' and backing away from me. But, I actually got him to touch one of the buttons!!! He helped push one button through the hole. I figure we have 14 1/5 years before his mission to overcome this--we are now one button closer!

Zach swallowed an Advil today. I know it doesn't sound too exciting but we have some pill swallowing-averse children. This is a big day!...

that is too funny! We can totally relate to the button phobia . . . Conner has a thing with zippers. When one of my brothers was kindergarten age he was known to bite the buttons off his shirts (the polo ones). Drove my mom crazy!
How do these kids get these things into their heads? They crack me up.
That's so funny! I wonder what got him all shook up over the buttons? Poor guy :) Hopefully he will be facing his button fear more and more in the near future. At least his mission is a ways off!
Hey, maybe you could encourage him to touch them more by wrapping up gifts or treats in a button up cover of some sort? Something to encourage him to touch them knowing the prize will be worth it?! I don't know, just an idea :)
I don't know that I have ever heard of being button phobic. I am glad you are one button close to defeating that fear.
