Count me in too.

When Shannon wrote her word of the year I thought it was a cool idea. Then, Nicole posted her word of the year. Suddenly, I found myself thinking about it too. I thought about what this year had in store for us and my first thought was--my word could be 'survival'. (Tim has a late schedule this semester and it will be a rare thing to even have dinner together.) But, as I thought more about that I decided that I wanted something a bit more positive and meaningful. I have had moments throughout my life where I felt like I just needed to 'survive' but they are just that--moments. I didn't want to brand my whole year with that mentality. The more I thought about life as it is for me now the more I realized that if there was something I want/need for this year it is Perspective.

The eminent historian Will Durant wrote of the human need “to seize the value and perspective of passing things. … We want to know that the little things are little, and the big things big, before it is too late; we want to see things now as they will seem forever—‘in the light of eternity.’ " (Neal A. Maxwell, “‘Take Especial Care of Your Family’,” Ensign, May 1994, 88)

That is what I want. Perspective. I want to cherish the good in my life. I want to let go of the difficult things. I want to spend quality time with Tim and nurture our friendship and relationship. I want to hug my kids more, play with them more, listen better, and enjoy this precious childhood of theirs. I want to study the gospel more fervently and spend time in Holy Places. These are what I see as the 'big things'. I want to keep an Eternal Perspective on my life because, when all is said and done the eternal things are what matter most.

I LOVE your perspective on the year 2009. Focusing on the eternal is a great goal. Good luck :)

ooo, that's a good one. I like your thought process - wanting something that is positive and meaningful. And you can always pull "survival" out of the closet on the days you need it most, right? :)

What a well thought goal! Perspective is so important, but I don't think it's something that we think about regularly. Great word!!

Great choice, Tiffini! Your thoughts were inspiring. I always say that if I lived each day keeping a clear "eternal perspective", I know I would act and re-act differently a lot of times.

I love reading what everyone chooses for their words! This was a really good one. I could use a little more perspective in my life! Thanks!

I have also been putting a lot of thought into a word. But I feel like my focus right now is different than what my focus will be in a couple of months from now. Right now, I think my word is endure. That's all I am doing untila replacement is found and then trained, but then I get to reidentify myself but then I get to enjoy. I was moved to tears in your post. I sometimes forget about the eternal perspective!
