Pokee shapes.

For months I have been trying to help Wyatt learn his shapes. Actually, it has been longer than that but after his preschool assessment showed some weakness in this area we have tried a little harder. We went on a shape hunt around the house--he got bored with that quickly. In spite of much repetition, he still couldn't cement in his head the distinction between a square, rectangle, and triangle. Last week I was reading a shapes book to Mallory and started quizzing Wyatt on the shapes. He was stumbling again. I started to wonder how this son of mine could memorize every Pokemon card in the house, tell you every attack and how much damage it can do, and can't remember what a triangle looks like. Wyatt has an amazing memory--for things he feels are important to remember. As I was pondering what to do, inspiration hit. I told Wyatt that the Triangle had Super Poke attack and did 30 damage (10 for each side). The Square did Super Same attack (four sides the same length) and did 40 damage. Rectangle did Super Wrecker attack (because it wrecks the square when the lengths of the sides aren't the same) and did 40 damage. BINGO!! He remembers. Days later---he remembers. He likes to count the sides and tell me how much damage it does. The circle--Roll over attack--50 damage. Star--Twinkle attack--50 damage. Crescent--Moon attack--20 damage. Diamond--Sparkle attack--40 damage. Oval--Football throw attack--50 damage.

SO, if you ever come across a Triangle in a dark alleyway--watch out. It might attack you with Super Poke and you better hope you have more than 30 life left or you are in trouble!!

You do what you gotta do to get them to learn! I say, go with what they love - they will remember it better!

Way to go, Wyatt! I'll keep my eyes peeled in those dark alleys...
