School Program

I was able to go to Zachary's Patriotic Program right after Ethan's field trip. The teachers let the kids help design their t-shirts (can you see in the picture how they are lined up like an American Flag?). Three of the 1st grade classes participated. They sang a bunch of patriotic songs, had speaking parts about our country and a slide show with pictures drawn by the students. I have to say something about Zachary--he has never enjoyed singing. When he brought home a little booklet with the songs for the program I thought he must be dreading having to sing all of these songs. But, he surprised me. He looked like he was having a lot of fun on stage. He told me that his teacher had complimented him on how well he spoke his part and I am sure that helped his level of confidence. I made sure to get a picture of him with his teacher, Mrs. Nuttall. She has been great for Zach. Zach has been a little disappointed in the academic level of 1st grade--telling her that he needed her to "upgrade" his work. She has complimented him on his intelligence and focused on improving his weaknesses (he is very quiet and sometimes hard to understand because he reads quickly and softly) and he has made some good progress.
